For many home air conditioner installations an experienced DIYer should be able to do it themselves. With split type air conditioners a condenser unit needs to be mounted outside and a wall or ceiling unit mounted inside. The 2 copper pipes and electrical control cable need a 70 mm hole through the wall and you might need to hire a core drill to make this hole.
The internal unit is supplied with a bracket for mounting. For the external unit a connection to mains power will need to be made. A standard 13a plug socket is all that is required for 12000 & 18000Btu systems. Larger units will require a qualified electrician to connect the unit back to the consumer unit. (Use our Btu Calculator to see the size of the unit you need.)
The control cable which connects the inside unit to the outside is numbered for ease of installation. When all the connections have been made the refrigerant is released into the system from the outside unit. Pipe kits of various lengths are supplied and listed below. A standard installation should take around 3 hours but if you are new to this then double the time should be allowed.
